Veterans Rally for Rachel Canup

There is 21 million veterans still living today.  Add family members then the figure goes up to 80 to 100 million.  together with all the friends and supporters we have the power in numbers to make a difference.  Together we all, when posible, should come together and support those who support Veterans.  Herein, at the bottom of the page, everyone can learn how the power in numbers can help Rachel Canup.

During The 2016 Walk Across America, The Walking Veteran had the honor of meeting an amazing teenager who showed support for him and compassion towards veterans.  She is Rachel Canup and at the time of their visit Rachel was Miss Teen Tupelo.

The story of Rachel is not alone about the outer beauty but the extraordinary story of her that has captivated the hearts so many.  The story is so genuine and heart-felt that The Walking Veteran has called for a Call of Action were people can show their support to help Rachel experience her dreams.

US Vets Political Action Committee (USVetsPAC.com) has taken a rare step outside of their mission scope and endorsed Rachel Canup.  Their endoresement are for political candidates.  That alone gives you some understanding of the effect of the Rachel Canup has had within the Veterans organizations.

Rachel, for being a young person of her age, has a resume that most older adults would be in awe of.

Leadership Roles:  Sponsor of Boerner Be Wild Family Fitness Day; initiated and coordinated the Womanless Beauty Pageant & Mother-Daughter Tea Party benefiting Children’s Miracle Network; Fellowship of Christian Teens- Secretary; Student Council- President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer; Class Representative; Anchor Club; Recycling Organization- President; School Office Assistant; Special Education Assistant; Cathy Steele Dance- gymnastics, hip hop, tap and ballet; IAHS Tennis; IAHS Track; IAC Cheerleader Captain- IAHS Cheerleader Captain, Mentor for youth at Cheer Intensity Athletics (CIA); CIA competitive cheer team; Power Kids- children living a healthy lifestyle; Mirror Yearbook Staff; Healthworks volunteer for North MS Medical Center

Accomplishments:   Raised $2,000 for Le Bonheur; 1st place for Bless her Heart 5k for AK Fundraiser; 2nd place for Glow in the Dark 5k (Anchor Club Fundraiser); 4th place in Run the Tribe 5k (IAHS Football Fundraiser); Life Word Walk of Faith Recipient;  Itawamba Players on stage plays including Annie, The Wizard of Oz, and Beauty & the Beast; performed at the Elvis Memorial Dinner fundraiser for needy students; Who’s Who Friendliest, Cutest, & Most Courteous; participated in Disciple Now; St. Louis Mission Trip; Clothes Closet for needy students; Diamond Doll for baseball team; active in nursing home visitation & community service; danced in “Queens for a Cause” benefit for CMN; hosted/served in IHOP’s National Pancake Day and South restaurant to benefit CMN; Barefoot Messengers drama team & interpretive dance; composed “Cooking for a Cause” Cookbook

Interesting Facts: I would like to adopt a child in the future; when I visited China I was treated like a celebrity

Rachel had suffered a traumatic concussion during a cheerleading competition in 2017 causing memory lost and the end to her dancing talent.  She did not allow her setback to distract her from her dreams.  “Don’t give up on your dreams; Don’t let a wall stand in front of you: and even though you are in a valley don’t be scare to climb up the hill and get on top”.  She soon discovered her hidden talent of being an artist.

Her goal is to make a difference in children’s lives, teaching them that exercise does not have to be boring, but can include creative fun ideas that relate to them; that they have a choice of having either a sedentary lifestyle that can enable them to feel good with a life of less physical pain and more energy.
